For as long as I can remember, I have felt drawn to serve others and give back to my community. Throughout my life, connecting with others has come easily for me and I believe my gentle and warm demeanor helps clients feel safe and comfortable to open up during therapy sessions. As a parent myself, I know what it’s like to worry about your child; to question if their struggles are just a phase or if they could benefit from a space and support outside the family to process their emotions. I look forward to be that person; to help children, teens and the families that worry about them.
In therapy, we will work collaboratively toward mutual goals to ensure your child feels heard, validated, understood and most of all feels there is hope. I am hopeful they will thrive with spontaneity, resiliency and laughter while facing the challenges of life. My role is to help families remove the sense of helplessness that often accompanies them when their child struggles with emotional challenges and to harness our innate powers for healing and growth when given the proper opportunity and tools.
I specialize in treating trauma, self- harm, anxiety, anger and depression in children and teenagers; while supporting and providing tools to the families who love them. I have training and experience treating children and teens who are experiencing the effects of their parents’ divorce, transitional issues, loss, accidents, natural disasters, abuse, violence and assault. I utilize an eclectic approach that can be both directive and non-directive; which allows me tailor to the client’s individual needs and goals. Some therapeutic modalities I am trained to implement include but are not limited to: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Child Centered Play Therapy, Trauma Focused CBT, EMDR and TraumaPlay; which fosters a safe and trusting environment that is fun while promoting healing and coping skill development.
I received my Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Michigan State University and a Masters in Counseling with a specialization in Marriage and Family Counseling from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. I value and honor that clients come from all backgrounds and walks of life. If desired, I can include a Christian context for those clients who request to incorporate faith into their sessions.
I look forward to the opportunity to be a support for you, your family and your child/teen as you navigate challenges and events in your life.
